Instrument Plastics

Instrument Plastics specialises in the designing and manufacturing of various Optical, RFI and Infrared Filters for electronic displays. Opening its doors in 1987, the advanced engineering expertise of the company has lead to the development of a vast range of products.

With 40 dedicated employees including a thermoset casting department for manufacturing high quality optical filters from optical HSR and Acrylics. A special casting department working with a full service CNC machine shop, EMC shielded windows, inspection systems, assembly division and screen print facilities is also operational. Instrument Plastics is a leading force in the supply of Optical Filters in the UK and customers worldwide. EMC Shield

EMC Shields are one of the most popular products manufactured by Instrument Plastics. EMC Shields serve the prupose of shielding AC drivers and related equipment. EMC shields and filters are utilized to reduce or eliminate very high frequency power supply line disturbances. Such fluctuations, often caused by PWM AC drives, can potentially influence or interfere with highly sensitive electronics in the vicinity. EMC directive by testing with the appropriate Control Techniques drives.

RFI Shields

RFI Shields are another one of our shielding devices. RFI stands for Radio Frequency Interference. Such radiation can cause severe malfunctions in electronics equipment hence the need for and RFI Shield. It is highly prudent to utilize RFI shields where sensitive electronics or industrial equipment is in operation.

Optical Filters

Optical filters serve to filter out certain wavelengths of light from the environment. These can include polarizing filters. Polarized light travels in the same direction, as opposed to non-polarized light that travels in multiple directions. Optical filters can come in a variety of colours, meant to filter or allow specific wavelengths or colours.

Infrared Filters

Infrared filters transmit heat or infrared radiation for the applicable sensor. Infrared filters, also known as IR filters, let through other wavelengths of light in the infrared range. However, light wavelengths at the short end of the spectrum, and visible light are blocked by infrared filters. They can help to reduce glare or heat disturbances in specific applications such as working with infrared sensors sensors.

Laminated filters

Laminated filters are available in glass, polycarbonate and acrylic. EMC Shield/ RFI Shield meshes can be laminated between glass or polycarbonate. Polarising and coloured laminated filters can also be applied in glass or polycarbonate. Laminated filters are available in glass and plastic in various thicknesses from 3.0mm upwards.

Electronic Displays

Electronic displays require protection from the working environment. The Electronic displays are integrated to be protected by Optolite™ clear HSR filters, EMC / RFI shielded filters or Optolite contrast enhancement filters.
